You didn't see any giant bird shadows while you were out in the desert, did you?

The Desert Acolyte

The Grand Thunder Bird is the earliest boss available to the player and has the lowest health, defense and damage of all the bosses. Despite this, the player is advised to obtain basic equipment before attempting to defeat the Grand Thunder Bird.

While The Grand Thunder Bird is alive, its exclusive Music will play.

Spawn[ | ]

The Grand Thunder Bird does not spawn on its own, and requires the player to summon it with the Grand Flare Gun. Storm Flares are required as ammunition, and will only be consumed on a successful use. It can only be summoned and fought in the Desert biome during the day.

Behavior[ | ]

Upon spawning, the Grand Thunder Bird will rain lightning sparks onto the player from above, which are generally easily dodged by moving to one side. Throughout the fight, it will summon Storm Hatchlings and charge at the player.

Attacks[ | ]

  • When it first spawns, and throughout the fight, the Grand Thunder Bird will cause lightning sparks to rain onto the player from above.
  • It occasionally attempts to zap the player with lightning sparks. These sparks travel from the bird to the player instead of from the sky to the player.
  • It will summon Storm Hatchlings to attack the player like bats.
  • It will hover a fixed difference beside the player, charging after a short delay. Hitting the bird while it's charging will stun it, providing an opportunity to land several more hits on the boss.
